AI’s predictive analytics raises concerns about privacy, transparency, and bias. Although AI algorithms analyze user behavior to make predictions, users are often unaware of the extent of data being collected and how it’s being used. A lack of transparency leads to mistrust, which designers must address by ensuring that AI-driven systems are clear about data usage. Providing users with necessary information about their data usage reduces mistrust. UserTesting allows users (primarily designers) to see how their testing data is processed and interpreted. Spotify, another company that embraces transparency, maintains a Spotify Wrapped™ feature, which explains how their algorithms determine a user’s music preferences.

Animal-themed skins are always silly and cute, no matter the game, and Astro Bot is no exception. The Bovine outfit makes Astro look just like the cows in the Safari and certain other levels. Directly referencing the infected from The Last of Us series, this outfit has a simple design compared to the other game-inspired outfits. I’m not going to lie—I have no idea why Team Asobi approved of this outfit. It could have been some sort of invisibility power-up or just not included outright. Once you find 48 hidden puzzle pieces, you unlock the Changing Room, which features 20 outfits, most directly referring to VIP bots.

Unlike the other bot who wears this outfit in the Crash Site, it doesn’t change Astro’s eyes to red. Team Asobi’s Astro Bot is a love letter to not just the PlayStation platform, but also the industry as a whole. Many of the game’s cameos appear as 150 (and counting) bots who hail from a myriad of games, from the forgotten to the timelessly classic. For the first prompt we’re going to explore Claude’s storytelling capability, as well as how entertaining it can be on slightly obscure topics. Still, it deserves a spot on this list for its legacy in Astro’s Playroom, and it probably would have made a fun little power-up with a shooter-based level.

With the success of Astro’s Playroom, it wasn’t all that surprising to see Team Asobi recycle some of their ideas for Astro Bot. The monkey power-up is a direct descendant (and perhaps even upgrade) of the monkey suit. You only get to use the teddy cymbals once in the game, in the carnival-inspired level Final Encore, in the secret Lost Galaxy.

And if you’re paying £219.00 for a pair of headphones, I’d argue you want access to the full suite of features on offer. A new feature for the Pixel Buds 2 is Find My Device — a lifesaver if you’re prone to putting your buds down somewhere and forgetting where they went (guilty). You can ring both the earbuds and the case from your phone to hear where they are. The levels designed with this ability in mind encourage you to time your slo-mo just right, whether to improvise platforms from enemy attacks or to jump on platforms that normally would never be climbable. One final note to make about the sound is that when you’re adjusting the earbuds or tweaking them around, they can produce an irritating whistling noise. It’s a minor gripe, but not something I expected from a £200+ pair of headphones.

One standout project is Microsoft Seeing AI(Figure 7), an app designed for the visually impaired.

At the Figma Config 2024, keynote speakers talked about the growing importance of AI in enhancing design tools, which led to the introduction of Figma’s new AI feature. FigJam streamlines the design process by providing suggestions and automating repetitive tasks to allow designers more time to focus on creativity and strategy. Additionally, the AI feature in FigJam (Figure 3) summarizes in stickies and generates diagrams.

Given that the functionality of Anna is built around dealing with tax and accounting efficiency, the design language of the product needed to be fun. When it launched its contactless debit card users soon found out that a payment tap would emit a miaow on their phone. It’s strange how Team Asobi included Ico and Wander’s outfits but didn’t complete the trifecta with an outfit from The Last Guardian. Despite the dull colors and similar design to Ico’s, Wander’s outfit and hair are easily recognizable. But I guess that’s not much of a change since Astro is technically naked throughout the game anyway. The teddy bear outfit, thanks to its rounded and soft shapes, gives off a cuddly feeling, and it might be one of the cutest outfits we have for Astro. All of those outfits look good on Astro, but there are bound to be some that outshine the others.

It’s very natural, unlike some cheaper earbuds, and is good for hearing people speaking right next to you. Anything further away is still cut out, so if safety on the run is your top priority, I’d look at a pair of bone conduction headphones instead. Beyond chat, AI is working on its other favored function, the boring stuff. In this case, it has been designed into the product’s functionality and takes care of things such as bookkeeping, tax returns and invoice chasing. It wasn’t just about a thumbnail; it was about how AI quietly enhanced my workflow to make tasks I dreaded into something more enjoyable.

It’s not so much of a problem if I’m just sat on the train to work, but on the run — the priority here — things don’t work as seamlessly as I’d like. I’ve been testing the Jabra Elite 8 Active Gen 2 alongside the Buds Pro 2 and the Jabra’s controls are far more reliable. The small, egg-shaped charging case is excellent, though, and easily fits into a running belt, hydration jacket or gym bag. The buds also come in a choice of black (hazel), white (porcelain), pink (peony) or mint (wintergreen). I tested the porcelain colourway, but I’m a big fan of the bolder designs.

It’s also a power-up where its use could potentially be extended outside the levels that were designed with Barkster in mind, as a dash is indispensable in any game. Astro Bot is filled to the brim with different fun challenges, and while the levels are engaging by themselves, any game designer worth their salt knows that a good platformer needs power-ups to keep the gameplay fresh. If you’re a petite runner, or want a cute, discreet set of buds, you’ll get on well with these.

The linear passage of time is extremely predictable but very cruel, and gamers know the pain it inflicts all too well. The overwhelming power of moving within stopped time is so intoxicating that you can’t help but laugh at your frozen enemies before you smash them to bits, especially when you first use it in Slo-Mo Casino. The best part about the Hose-Nose ability is that, with good movement tech and a fully loaded canister, you can bypass many seemingly tough platforming challenges, and go places that normally would be unreachable.

You can create floating concrete or leafy blocks, honey-jumping pads, and icy ramps. This ability shines when you can choose between these different liquids, encouraging creative thinking. With this ability, you can shrink and grow whenever you want, opening up new ways to explore the environment, and creating new challenges that would have been previously negligible with a regular size. It just fits the tone and aesthetic of this level so well, and I would even argue that Astro Bot is a game that executes an underwater level perfectly.

To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of it, considering it comes from such a big franchise.

The sound is crystal-clean, crisp and well-balanced and Google’s design adjustments, including the 11mm drivers and high-frequency chamber, contribute to a more designing a chatbot open and immersive soundstage. Google has brought its new Tensor A1 chip to the Pixel Buds Pro 2, which it claims enables faster audio processing and twice the Active Noise Cancellation as the first-gen Buds Pro.
